United Nations University (UNU)

• The research programmes of the institutions of UNU shall include, among other subjects… the environment and proper use of resources. The Environment programme promotes understanding and builds capacity in major areas that relate to water, environment and human health.
The activities undertaken by UNU cover a broad range of issues related to the water crisis. A major emphasis area deals with monitoring and management of water pollution in costal areas. The general objective is to identify costal areas that are threatened by pollution, recognize the potential land-based sources for pollution and develop guidelines for management of pollution sources and fore rehabilitation of degraded environments.
